Cat. #003244: SIMONE SIGNORET

Scarce signature in violet marker on a 1.5 x 5-inch portion of a white card.  In good condition, with trimming to the upper edge, and ideal for matting with a favorite photograph.  Through the auspices of her first husband, director Yves Allegret, the mesmerizing French beauty was built up as a star in the post-World War II era.  Typically cast as women who were either unlucky in love and/or vaguely untrustworthy, she was enthralling in masterpieces like Casque D'Or (1952); the horror film Les Diaboliques (1955); Room at the Top (1959), for which she nabbed an Academy Award; and Ship of Fools (1965).  Her second husband was Yves Montand.  Maturing into a plump, but still bewitching character actress, Signoret continued appearing in choice film roles until 1982.
